Felipe Pétriz Calvo

Felipe Pétriz Calvo is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. He was elected rector of the University of Zaragoza, a position he held from the years 2000 to 2008. Further in his career, he joined the General State Administration – working with the Ministry and Science and Innovation and then with the Ministry of Education. In 2009, he was appointed as the Secreatary of State for Research of Spain, a position he held till 2011.

Key Achievements

  • Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise (2021, awarded by the Council of Ministers of Spain through Royal Decree 1204/2021, in recognition of his academic merits and career in higher education
  • “Antonio Muñoz Porcar” Prize from the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA) (2021), awarded at the 1st edition of the EINA Annual Awards, recognizing his commitment to university values ​​and his contribution to society
  • Recognition as Rector of the University of Zaragoza (2000–2008), elected rector in 2000 with 63% of the votes and re-elected in 2004, he led the university until 2008, being recognized for his management in modernization and international projection
