Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014)

Gabriel García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, and is considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century. He started out as ajournalist and went on to write many acclaimed non-fiction works and short stories. He is best known for his novels, ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude‘ (1967) and ‘Love in the Time of Cholera‘ (1985), noted for popularising the writing technique of ‘magical realism’. He held socialist and anti-imperialist views throughout his career, which in turn shaped his political affiliations as well as his literary technique.
