The Interactive Martí Atlas is a large database that aims to record the presence of the life, work and image of José Martí in all countries of the world.
The Atlas promotes the knowledge and dissemination of the life, work and example of José Martí in a different way, in this case: the knowledge, re-edition and creation of walking routes, inventories and documentary, heritage and artistic funds in various countries and cities that demonstrate the universality of Martí’s presence.
Similarly, it encourages related activities in conjunction with Cuban entities and friendly people and entities in different countries for the development of the historical and cultural ties that unite them and the creation and strengthening of new relationships.
The database has a geographical dimension, which includes a collection of thematic and country-specific maps based on filters (José Martí as traveler, chronicler, researcher, poet, translator, etc.). These maps highlight places visited by Martí during his lifetime, as well as those mentioned in his work and other relevant locations. Similarly, the database’s heritage dimension consists of an inventory of tangible and intangible heritage associated with José Martí, also based on filters (Martí associations, artistic expressions, dedicated spaces, etc.).
Thanks to the Atlas, we know about the nearly 20 countries visited by Martí during his life as well as more than 120 cities and towns, which constitutes a guide to strengthen ties of friendship, cooperation and solidarity on several continents.
Likewise, thousands of actions have been collected in dozens of countries over decades of work by Cuban and international institutions dedicated to promoting the study of the life and work of José Martí.
How can I contribute to the development of the Interactive Martí Atlas?
We rely on the collaboration of all interested parties in order to develop and keep updated our inventories of the different monuments, busts, plaques, parks, streets, institutions, works of art and other information related to the presence of José Martí in countries visited or mentioned by him throughout his life.
Similarly, we seek help in the collection, organization and digital presentation of this information on a permanent and free basis, taking advantage of the features of the José Martí Program websites and related platforms.
With these actions we hope to contribute to strengthening relationships with collaborators from all over the world.
