Federico Mayor Zaragoza (1934-2024)

Federico Mayor Zaragoza was a Spanish scientist and politician who served as director-general of the UNESCO from 1987 to 1999. Under his guidance, UNESCO created the Culture of Peace Programme. In 2000, he founded the Foundation for a Culture of Peace, continuing the task he began as director-general of UNESCO: that of promoting the transition from a culture of violence and force, to a culture of peace and tolerance. Over his career, Zaragoza published over 100 articles in scientific journals, over 7 books of poetry, and more than 70 publications on development strategies.
