Guillermo Castro Herrera (born September 4, 1950, in Panama) is a Latin American scholar in environmental history, culture, and development. Trained in literature in Cuba before moving to Mexico for his master’s and PhD in Latin American Studies, he has spent decades thinking about how nature and society shape each other across the region. He currently serves as Vice President of Research and Training at Panama’s City of Knowledge Foundation, where he has been since 2013. Over the years, he has written extensively on environmental history in Latin America, with notable books exploring sustainability and the region’s ecological thought.
